How often do you hear the story of a man who was immaculately born from within a lotus flower with a thousand petals, in the middle of a lake, having been sent as a meteor from the heart of the Boudha of Boundless light? Lotus-Born is the fabulous story of the mystic, master scholar, and outrageous yogi, Padmasambhava, the Lotus-Born, who grew up an adopted prince, was banished, burned at the stake in a neighboring kingdom, and continued miraculously unscathed, wandering through cemeteries, dancing on corpses, and proceeded to live more than five hundred years. He is regarded by the most sane Tibetans as a real, historical figure, the founder of Buddhism in Tibet where he subjugated demons and taught the Buddha’s teachings.

The complete story of how Buddhism was planted in Tibet is available in English for the first time with the publication of this book. Lotus-Born is a translation of a biography of the great master recorded in the ninth century by his foremost Tibetan disciple, the princess Yeshe Tsogyal. Many of these biographies were concealed as terma treasures to protect them against the changes of time.

Review
"The first complete version of Guru Rinpoche’s life, The Lotus-Born translated by Erik Pema Kunsang, one of the most able and prolific Western translators, comes highly recommended. What a relief to be able to sit down and read a treasure in which we can have full confidence in both the words and the meaning. He has put Guru Rinpoche’s life into meaningful context by including with his translation a foreword by Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and a short work by Tsele Natsok Rangdröl, a master of the seventeenth century."
- Ngawang Zangpo, author of Guru Rinpoche: His Life and Times --This text refers to the paperback edition.

About the Author
Yeshe Tsogyal is perhaps one of the most well-known female practitioners of Tibetan Buddhism. A beloved disciple and partner of Padmasambhava, Tsogyal achieved great realization and became a teacher herself. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Sanglinma, the Copper Temple;, is the most important, extensive and complete Guru Padmasambhava`s biography/hagiography (nam-thar); concealed by the Dakini Yeshe Tsogyal and revealed by the Terton Ral Nyima Oser (1124-1192), from the Terma Ngadag Nyang.

It`s incredible how a so precious spiritual text like this, had survived more than millenium and transmited from an uninterrupted lineage of enlighted Masters; now translated to english for the west world.
Reading it with an open and devoted heart, the text itself becomes a spiritual teaching including some amazing historical details about the entrance an establishment of the Tantrayana into Tìbet. The final chapters are precious profound advices and techings from Guru Rinpoche to practitioners of the distant future (precisely for us), doing the text even more valuable.
All buddhist practitioners should read it, is the true origin of the Tibetan Buddhism and a present source of inspiration and motivation.

I wouldn't recommend this book for beginners in buddhism. It has many symbolic and metaphoric passages that could lead to bad misunderstanding. But for those seriously following the path, specially in he Nyingma tradition, it's a wonderful book to know better Guru Rinpoche and how the Buddhadharma arrived in Tibet!

It is SO refreshing to read a book on Buddhism, a biography nonetheless, where we are not inundated with rationalizations, psychological justifications, or de-mystifications. If you read other biographies of Buddhist saints, you realize know how rare this is. Thank you, thank you... Sometimes you just want to read a book with some real, genuine, magical meat on the bone. Especially when you're hoping to get some insight into a totally different culture -- it's a good lesson for us westerners to learn how to let go of what can or cannot happen in a story.

I love this book on many levels. There's also a great terms dictionary in the back, which I've referred to repeatedly.
