сложная, но очень воодушевляющая книга. много информации, которую необходимо обработать и потом попробовать применять на практике. однозначно когда-нибудь её перечитаю, а пока всем советую!

My No.1 book of 2018 that is full of my notes and bookmarks. I am so happy that I read it in the beginning of my mindfulness and meditation journey. I already feel magical effects of this book in my daily life, my relationships with people, my perception, attitude and self-esteem.
Book draws parallels between Buddhist meditation practices and scientific experiences in neuropsychology and physics. It explains main qualities of brain, how it works, what different parts of brain are responsible for, how neuron chains are created and how they can be changed slowly with regular mindfulness and meditation practice, why there are two types of happiness, what is compassion and how it can help us to feel happy.
I already ordered two more books of this author and will start reading them in new year :) (less)

It is difficult to pass by the book that starts from Einstein`s quote about Buddhism who states that this is the only religion compatible with modern science. Why would Albert say so? Probably because Buddhism does not offer dogmas and does not require blind faith but adapts to the changeable reality. Instead of rejecting neurophysiology or quantum physics, Buddhists embrace them and try to find common points. That is what this book is about.
Following the idea of the genius Youngey Mingyur, a young Buddhist monk, tries to connect his practical knowledge about this "religion" to scientific evidence in Physics and Psychology. And from all I`ve read on this topic, he does it most persuasively and with a terrific sense of humor.

First, this book had a number of answers for me, the person interested in Buddhism. Like why Buddhists choose "compassion" instead of "love", and when I can expect enlightenment (spoiler: not soon):) Second, it is great guide for those who want to know what this meditation is all about without deep immersion in Buddhism. Book`s perspective is very practical and realistic, and it actually gives freedom to mediators offering them "to meditate as long as it is pleasant". And thirdly, I could not find any discrepancies between my humble knowledge of of Social Psychology and Buddhist ideas mentioned in this book. For me, as for an anxious introvert afraid of people, this book was just another proof that we construct the reality in our heads. Highly recommended.

Она медитативная, и ...more

Excellent book that truly unlocks the secret and science to happiness.

Here are a few quotes: " The yearning most of us feel for a lasting happiness is the "small still voice" of the natural mind, reminding us of what we are really capable of experiencing."

"The important thing is to learn how to rest your mind -- to work with it instead of being worked by it."

"Conditions are always changing, and real peace lies in the ability to adapt to the changes."

"A lotus begins to grow from the mud and sediment at the bottom of the lake or pond, but by the time the flower blooms at the surface, it bears no trace of the mud; In fact, the pedals appear to repel filth. In the same way, when your mind blossoms into the lake experience, you have no trace of clinging or grasping." (less)

Well, what can I say about this book. It is an interesting read on Buddhism.
It is written in a very simple (too simple for my taste though) language, for general public, for easy read. In quite simple terms and examples it gives you an idea what Buddhism is all about. It also gives you the techniques of meditation. And it gives interesting info in comparison to sciences.
It was my first book on Buddhism I ever read and it didn't really answer some of my questions.
But if you just want to get an idea of what Buddhism is all about, its a good start and an interesting read. (less)
