Providing an explanation of the practical and philosophical foundations of Raja Yoga, The Yoga Sūtras of Patañjali is arguably the most important text on Yogic philosophy.

The Yoga Sūtras of Patañjali is widely regarded as the most authoritative text on yoga. It comprises a collection of 196 Indian sutras (“threads” – as sutra translates from Sanskrit) written 1,700 years ago. These threads or aphorisms were compiled by the Indian sage Patañjali and offer guidelines for living a meaningful and purposeful life.

The book is organized into four parts and provides descriptions of the eight limbs of yoga, such as pranayama and asana. The translated text is presented alongside a clear and insightful commentary by Swami Vivekananda, which makes them more accessible to the modern reader and yoga practitioner. His message of universal brotherhood and self-awakening remains relevant today, especially in the current backdrop of widespread political turmoil around the world.

Sri S. Satchidananda

Sri Swami Satchidananda was one of the first Yoga masters to bring the classical Yoga tradition to the West. He taught Yoga postures, meditation, and a vegetarian and more compassionate lifestyle to Westerners when he was invited to America in 1966 by the iconic pop artist Peter Max. The distinctive teachings he brought with him blend the physical discipline of Yoga, the spiritual philosophy of Vedic literature, and the interfaith ideals he pioneered. These techniques and concepts influenced a generation and a spawned Yoga culture that is flourishing today. The organization founded on his teachings, Integral Yoga International, is now a leading institute for Yoga teacher certification. Integral Yoga is the foundation for Dr. Dean Ornish's landmark work in reversing heart disease and Dr. Michael Lerner's noted Commonweal Cancer Help program. He is the author of many books on Yoga and is the subject of the 2008 documentary, Living Yoga.

I'm a yoga instructor and my students love having a bit of inspiration at the beginning of class. These cards have been great. For smaller classes I have even had students draw a card from the deck, read it and sit with it for a few minutes before we begin asana practice. It's amazing how they always seem to pick the card whose wisdom they need that day. I use the cards in my own practice from time to time and draw inspiration from them.

This is one remarkable work from Patanjali and very justly translated by Swami Vivekananda.

This is the seed of all philosophies, although a small book, but takes time to be understood.

The secret of our "being" or "Self" is made absolutely clear by the great Patanjali.

I would suggest the readers to read it multiple times to get the nectar out of this flower of knowledge.

The simple truthsin this cards is a testament to the wisdom that Gurudev made accessible to people studying Integral Yoga. Swami Satchidananda opened the Woodstock Festival in 1969 and founded Yogaville in Virginia. Highly recommended, nice quality and a treat to read one together with my wife at dinner or before we go to sleep.
