At first hearing, the expression “existential theology” sounds like a contradiction in terms. How can the existential, which is firmly grounded in the reality of daily experience, embrace a theology which celebrates a supernatural power that stands in a unique relationship to the time and space and place in which a person stands. Yet, the expression must be allowed for Kazantzakis has indeed given expression to an understanding of God and he has done so without losing sight of the reality that governs the human condition.

this is one of the best essays on Kazantzakis' ideology. Clearly explaining his views of the here and now, and the questions that have filled the collective consciousness of mankind in an existential framework. It examines NK's Odyssey and explains how it is a container of all his beliefs. It (Dossor's essay) is accessible, insightful, and worth the price a hundred times over.
