The highly anticipated follow up to Simon Sinek's global bestseller Start with Why

Imagine a world where almost everyone wakes up inspired to go to work. This is not a crazy, idealised notion. In many successful organisations, great leaders are creating environments in which teams trust each other so deeply that they would put their lives on the line for each other.

Yet other teams, no matter what incentives were offered, are doomed to infighting, fragmentation and failure. Why?

Today's workplaces tend to be full of cynicism, paranoia and self-interest. But the best organisations foster trust and cooperation because their leaders build what Sinek calls a Circle of Safety. It separates the security inside the team from the challenges outside. Everyone feels they belong and all energies are devoted to facing the common enemy and seizing big opportunities.

As in Start with Why, Sinek illustrates his ideas with fascinating true stories, from the military to manufacturing, from government to investment banking. He shows that leaders who are willing to eat last are rewarded with deeply loyal colleagues who will stop at nothing to advance their vision. It's amazing how well it works.

These exceptional organizations all have cultures in which the leaders provide cover from above and the people on the ground look out for each other. This is the reason they are willing to push hard and take the kinds of risks they do. And the way any organization can achieve this is with empathy.

Leaders Eat Last

Imagine a world where almost everyone wakes up inspired to go to work, feels trusted and valued during the day, then returns home feeling fulfilled.

This is not a crazy, idealized notion.

Today, in many successful organizations, great leaders are creating environments in which people naturally work together to do remarkable things. In Leaders Eat Last, Simon Sinek, internationally bestselling author of Start With Why, investigates these great leaders from Marine Corps Officers, who don't just sacrifice their place at the table but often their own comfort and even their lives for those in their care, to the heads of big business and government - each putting aside their own interests to protect their teams.

Sinek argues that this is what it means to be a true leader and shows the benefits such leadership brings to businesses and society, and reveals how and why we must all apsire to this gold standard.

Simon Sinek

Simon Sinek is the bestselling author of Start with Why, Leaders Eat Last, Together is Better and The Infinite Game which have helped organizations around the world inspire their people to reach new heights. He has presented his ideas to Fortune 100 companies and small start-ups; to non-profit organizations and members of Congress; to foreign ambassadors and the highest levels of the US military, among many others. His TED talk based on Start with Why is the third most popular video of all time on TED.com, with more than 35 million views.

3.0 out of 5 stars There is a lot of good stuff in here, but it’s about 2-3 times longer than it needs to beReviewed in Australia 🇦🇺 on 29 October 2020

There are many truths in here, and as is the usual for Simon Sinek, it’s all very well written. There are 2 major flaws however that keep this book from deserving another star: 1) it’s way too long. 2) some of the explanations, especially on the neuroscience side, are shaky at best.
He simplifies things to make a point, he makes assertions that should be opinions to make a point. It’s fine to do this in conversation, but not so much in a book that attempts to educate. It’s also not necessary: the points he’s making don’t need artifice to resonate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, Wow, Wow.Reviewed in Australia 🇦🇺 on 14 May 2017

As I prepare to retire after 24 years of taking a startup to a semi sccessful multi million dollar company, I can see where my successes came from and what caused my failures. I wish I had read this 20 years ago. As manager of an affiliate of a world wide group of companies, I see so much of what we need to do to go forward and be successful on the world stage - and its not all about the numbers.

With so much disharmony between our countries, our governments, our companies, our departments, our families - there are lessons to be learnt from this book at every level.

The examples & references used to articulate the points raised are well researched. Simon has managed to breakdown the dilemmas that can ensue within large corporations & what leaders need to consider & adopt to bring out the best in their workforce.

There is a lot that is worth considering.

I don't think any deep findings that none of us know, but a good attempt to help us refocus on the issues that we should be focusing but the KPIs that drive the organization often make us lose sight off.
