letting me know why I get many questions
0:09
very often on what the differences are
0:12
between Buddhism and Hinduism and if it
BUDDHISM VS. HINDUISM
0:15
matters why it matters and how we can
0:17
use them to discover which philosophy in
0:20
which religion fit best for our
0:22
practices and how we can take what we
0:24
need from them to help embrace our path
0:27
and grow from within in a way that we
0:29
might not have been able to access
0:30
before so today we'll be talking about
0:33
Buddhism versus Hinduism and the
0:34
differences between the two as well as
0:37
similarities.
no I for one am a major
0:40
advocate for both of these philosophies
0:42
especially when we're diving into the
0:45
nature of self and finding spiritual practices that help us understand our
place here amongst the stars
We have to understand that Buddhism grew out of Hinduism the same way that a branch grows off of a tree it might appear different it might seem
1:03
different
1:03
but the majority of it and
the majority of Buddhism, very deep rooted areas of Buddhism are identical to those in Hinduism.
so if you are practicing Buddhism or practicing Hinduism or interested in one versus the other, it's nice to know that both philosophies share a lot of commonalities versus their many differences.
so to begin let's start with where Buddhism and Hinduism do see eye to eye both of them do agree using different linguistics and terms
1:31
that in essence suffering is caused by
SUFFERING IS CAUSED BY CLINGING & IGNORANCE (KNOWN AS AVIDYA)
1:34
clinging that we do suffer due to the
1:37
delusion of our limited temporal nature
1:39
in Mianus illusory reality that we are
1:43
limited that we want things to be a
1:45
certain way because we cannot let go
1:47
because we cannot learn to see the true nature of what we are and to release our
1:51
addiction with this ego self we suffer
1:54
but they agree that there's a way out of this suffering and when we attain this
1:58
way out we have
in Buddhism attained enlightenment or nirvana
whereas in Hinduism we have attained moksha now
2:04
going along with this they both also
2:06
agree loosely in the idea of
2:08
in Reincarnation they might disagree with
2:11
the idea of the soul or no soul on
2:13
Buddhism known as anata
====
THE CYCLE OF SAMSARA (CYCLE OF LIFE & DEATH)
Essentially they agree that we are stuck in a cycle of samsara and a cycle of life
pain and suffering
so long as we do not awaken to our true nature and
that is why we are here now in this space where we might suffer but we have the
opportunity to use these philosophies and these practices to release ourselves
2:35
to liberate ourselves from the bondage of the illusions and ignorance we currently live within the manifolds Oh
====
FAITH IN THE EMPIRICAL, NOT THE IMAGINARY
2:41
another major agreement of the core philosophies of Hinduism and Buddhism is
the basis on understanding and finding real resilience real faith in the empirical and what we can see and feel and what we can know here and using that as a gateway to liberation beyond the
2:58
idea of name and form as reality and
BOTH TEACH HEAVILY THE PRACTICE OF MEDITATION
3:01
both religions agree we can do this through a few philosophies and methods a
major one between the two being meditation using insight using meditation to quiet the ego to quiet the conception the perceptions and what we think reality is silencing the mind
3:16
and allowing us to enter a space of
3:18
dianna or single pointed focus where the
3:20
ego disappears and true nature reveals
3:23
itself and when this happens we liberate
3:26
ourselves from suffering we become Jeevan Mukta in Hinduism
we become Buddhist in Buddhism we are free from
3:33
the bondage of this worldly life because
3:36
we are constantly now aware of its
3:39
non-existence and of our true nature so
3:41
keep in mind this is me really
3:43
condensing some of the commonalities now
3:45
depending on the sect or philosophy of
3:48
Hinduism or Buddhism they might have
3:50
differences there but the overall
3:51
practices the overall understanding of
3:54
the religion do have these notions in
3:56
mind for the most part but this is about
3:59
as far as many of the similarities go
4:01
before they started to have fundamental differences
major difference between Buddhism and Hinduism in my mind is that
Buddhism is virtually completely agnostic which is to say if Buddhism
THE CORE OF BUDDHISM IS AGNOSTIC.
4:13
there is no focus on the soul they call
4:15
it a not to know soul and so with God it's the same thing
4:18
the idea of afterlife of Heaven and Hell of God in any form not only do they not
think it exists but they don't care even if it does exist they say we are hearing
now we are falou thoroughly we are stuck in suffering because we cannot let go we can't just be with the reality as it is and enjoy its experience by living a right life a compassionate life
we are focused on the idea of gods and things like that and that takes us out of
practice so they don't care if there is a god or not they go as far as to say it
does not matter if there is a god or not there's a heaven or hell or not we are
here now let us focus on what we are doing here and now so we can truly awaken because that's what matters
====
4:58
whereas Hinduism is polytheistic monism
which means that Hinduism has many different gods many faces
Ganesha is the remover of obstacles many different complexions and and symbolisms to represent and these gods represent aspects of humanity of us of our reactions and interactions and in areas of life in which we need to grow or
improve or dedicate ourselves to or let go but these are all phases of oneness
of honest beyond the idea of God beyond polytheism in monism known as brahman
5:33
illness
=====
ONENESS
5:34
so when Hinduism is true Vedanta core
5:36
illness is what we are we are Brahman
5:38
Obama see you are that you are all of reality you are just manifested in a
5:45
singular point of consciousness as a
5:47
human and because of that you think you
5:50
are just this body or just this mind or
5:52
just your memories but in reality you
5:54
are all of it that oneness is you and
5:57
that is extremely important to know and
6:00
Hinduism compared to Buddhism because
6:01
that is what Hindus think helps you awaken to your true nature not denying
the reality of God but knowing that you are the totality of divinity here and
now that is inspiration enough and if
6:14
you'd like to know more about ten new
6:15
ism and Buddhism in full I have a few
6:19
playlists up here which you can click
6:20
and watch another primary difference is
6:23
in the philosophies they practice ISM
6:25
follows the Eightfold Path which is
6:27
essentially the path of compassion by
6:30
acting
6:31
passionately thinking compassionately
6:33
speaking compassionately doing things
6:35
compassionately we come to a state of
6:38
purity and in that purity we can
6:40
transcend into Nirvana and let go of
6:43
suffering whereas in Hinduism they
6:44
believe in using one of four if not
6:46
multiple modes of yoga or attaining
6:48
union with God through service through
6:51
devotion through acting for others
6:53
through devoting yourself to the deities
6:55
through learning intellectually all that
6:58
you can about this philosophy until it
7:00
clicks or through meditative practice
7:02
fully and graining yourself in the
7:04
moment as much as you can you often see
7:07
the Hari Krishna's which are bhakti
7:09
locust and practiced the devotion of
7:10
loving Krishna as it helps them
7:13
eradicate their ego and awaken to truth
7:15
so this is the major difference between
7:17
the two Buddhism says no just act a good
7:20
person and it'll help you awaken
7:23
whereas Hinduism says you have to
7:24
dedicate yourself to attaining Union
7:26
through a certain path specifically or
7:29
merging two of them so that you can come
7:31
to know what is versus what is not this
7:34
is why many see Buddhism has much more
7:36
stoic it stays away from the most part
7:39
from the celebrations and their rituals
7:41
and the cultural ideas outside of the
7:44
cultures that do exist and have them but
7:47
the philosophical core it says look all
7:48
those colours all that pizazz all those
7:50
ideas and conceptions those don't matter
7:53
to alleviate yourself from suffering you
7:55
have to be in this moment acting purely
7:58
and letting the ego go doing all the
8:00
other stuff doesn't help you in Hinduism
8:02
it agrees Hinduism is very colorful very
8:04
active very
8:07
devotional it says the more you think of
8:09
these things the more life in general is
8:11
colorful is abundant with these deities
8:14
and their representations the more your
8:16
mind will be focused on truth and
8:18
therefore a help you grow even on a
8:20
subconscious level of every single day
8:24
so long as you keep up your sadhana or
8:26
your practice liberation isn't detained
8:28
by isolating yourself and becoming stoic
8:31
and almost robotic it is attained by
8:33
loving everything and seeing everything
8:35
as Brahman
8:37
Carnot ask this God nature incarnate
8:39
because when you see all of it as that
8:41
one you release the ego as well noticing
8:44
that you are the one - or the one also
8:47
this is why Hinduism often promotes
8:50
gurus following teachers devoting
8:53
yourself to them because they again are
8:55
God just as you are and since they have
8:57
an understanding of that they can help
8:59
you they can assist you
9:00
whereas in Buddhism they go no no you
9:02
really don't need that nearly as much as
9:04
you think just go with it another
9:06
difference is that another major
9:07
difference is that Buddhism promotes the
THE MIDDLE WAY
9:10
middle way not too much of her announced
9:12
yet but not a hedonist just find peace
9:14
in the middle live purely
9:16
compassionately normally and you will
9:18
start to suffer less so long as you
9:20
follow the Eightfold Path
9:21
whereas in ISM views life through the
9:24
four permissible saying look you can ask
9:26
you're growing in life have a family
9:28
take care of them acquire wealth enjoy
9:31
the sense experiences and then once you
9:33
have had your worldly fill renounced
9:35
everything drop it all since you've had
9:38
that experience and attain realization
9:41
seeing that that wasn't the end of the
9:44
line that your desires kept going in
9:46
that world so that when you see that you
9:48
can return to renunciation devote
9:50
yourself fully to wakening and do so and
9:53
finally the biggest idea and the biggest
9:54
difference is that Buddhism negates and
9:56
throws away the idea of infinite
9:58
consciousness those who doesn't believe
10:00
in one infinite conscious reality that
10:02
is Brahman they think look life just is
10:05
in a near existential way we're just
10:07
here don't know how don't know why don't
10:10
care but I do know that I don't want to
10:12
suffer and because of that I will follow
10:14
the Eightfold Path and through that I
10:16
will awake and I will liberate myself I
10:17
will attain nirvana
10:19
and yet in Hinduism they say you are the
10:22
all incarnate the unmoving is within
10:25
your the knower of the known the object
10:27
watching the life go by is there that
10:29
unending consciousness that pure
10:31
consciousness the same as when we are in
10:33
deep sleep the unchanging aspect of
10:36
bareness of truth of your reality as all
10:38
of it is what you are you are that
10:41
divinity here and now and you can
10:44
realize that you
10:45
aren't justice limit itself but the
10:46
whole self through all of these
10:48
practices but that absolute
10:50
consciousness is reality and the bodies
10:52
are just vessels for the absolute divine
10:55
nature and that's really the core major
10:58
aspects in differences between Hinduism
11:00
and Buddhism that I thought would be
11:02
important to share with you guys and
11:03
help you understand them on a deeper
11:05
level using them to practice and grow as
11:07
well if you have any questions or
11:09
comments on Buddhism or Hinduism please
11:11
feel free like subscribe to leave those
11:12
down below I would love to do my best to
11:14
answer them and as always I'll see you
