When does Mary Effing Poppins arrive?
Laura Belbin survived hitting her thirties (oh, to be wrinkle-free again), anxiety (just), motherhood (two adorable little shits) and the new body that went with it (a left tit that sags slightly more than the right, anyone?). In Knee Deep in Life she gives a fearless and filthy account of her transformation from no-responsibilities woman to being in demand 24/7, the heartaches and humiliations, and most importantly, her (definitely-pushed-to-the-limits-but-totally-indestructible) marriage to Steve, the man who helped her to hold it together when post-natal depression kicked in.
Full of heart and wit - not to mention swearing that would make a sailor blush - this is the beast of a book Laura intends on riding into the hands of those people who doubt themselves every single day: the ones who have struggled to accept the way they look; the mums-to-be about to find themselves taking their first step towards parenthood; and the women bossing it like badasses every single day but never getting the credit they deserve. You are more than enough.

Book Description
A filthy, honest book about motherhood, mental health and acceptance, from social media sensation Laura Belbin, for fans of Part-time Working Mummy, The Unmumsy Mum and Why Mummy Drinks (with a hint of Megan Crabbe's Body Positive Power). --This text refers to the paperback edition.
About the Author
Laura Belbin (aka Knee Deep In Life) is a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, auntie - and the woman you avoid eye contact with in the playground. She is also the woman behind the blog Knee Deep in Life. Completely unfiltered and totally laid bare, she shares images of herself emulating out-of-this-world picture-perfect photographs sourced off Google (you know the type- Kim K in a sexy cut-out dress with a champagne bottle resting on her perfectly round bum) but totally imperfectly. Her online community is made up of like-minded people who want to laugh and celebrate their lumps, bumps and imperfections. Across her social channels she has over 1 million followers. --This text refers to the paperback edition.

2.0 out of 5 stars Whinging, opinionated, boring.Reviewed in Australia on 17 January 2021
I’ve known her for FB posts & wanted her book. Living in Australia, was difficult, but eventually got the book.
She says she’s all for equality, but straight away saying that woman without children are selfish. Wow.
Bangs on about how hard it is to have children, yet a decision she made & obviously the only thing she is. A mother. Yawn.
Such a shame.
Un educated in her opinions. Repetitive whinging.

I finally received this at 5.30 after waiting with excitement all day and as usual Laura does not disappoint. I only have Insta to follow certain people, Laura being one and she never fails to make me feel better or make me belly laugh. Laura is the person you wish would be a Mum friend in everyday life. I’m already well into the book and she is just amazing ... just what I needed. Well done Laura!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Funny, but not as good as 'Knee deep in life' online.Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 September 2020

Quite a funny read. I liked lots about it; Laura's honesty, the stories about growing up with her parents & sister etc. But there was also lots in there I couldn't relate to e.g. I wasn't expecting so much of the book to be about her struggles with her two children, which in parts was repetitive.
I also felt sorry for her husband after this as it came across in the book that she puts herself & her needs before him, rather than equally.
On the whole though, there is a nice feel to this book (again repetitive), she doesn't want anyone to struggle with postnatal depression, mental health, anxiety etc. like she has.
If you want a light hearted read, this is enjoyable but if you're expecting the same as you get when you follow her 'Knee deep in life' page, I didn't think it was as good.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brutally honest, hilarious and relatable readReviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 August 2020

This book was exactly what I was expecting from my favourite person on the internet - Hilarious, brutal honesty about the trials and tribulations of navigating life and motherhood, shared through personal anecdotes and experiences that every parent and woman will relate to. This book will leave you feeling empowered and is a brilliant reminder of the importance of learning to love ourselves, anal warts and all. It’ll also leave you with wet knickers from pissing yourself laughing. A must read!

I adore Laura Belbin and have followed her page on social media - if you want honest, gritty, no holds barred truths about relationships and motherhood - she is a must-follow - however - be warned, she swears - a lot - which to me just makes her more relatable!
I particularly love her video of 'drunk Steve (her husband!)
Laura's book is filled with raw honesty, brutal at times but so truthful - it's as though she's talking to me in a pub with a huge gin and tonic - she's like a friend that I have known for years.
The book is easy to read and at times I cried laughing whilst reading it.
Completely loved it! (less)

I genuinely love this woman! I remember finding her posts one day pop up on my Facebook and have followed her daily antics ever since. This book gave me full on belly laughs (which is embarrassing when your in a doctors waiting room!). It made me cry at parts and realised just how far I’ve come with mental health. This book is so reliable and helpful. Every badass woman needs to read it to understand.

I've never written a review before but this book deserves it!!! Absolutely amazing! This book has so much to offer and kicks you in all of the feels. An emotional rollercoaster from happy to sad, laugh out loud moments to cringeing at relatable tales. Truly uplifting and raw. It's about time people spoke the truth instead of hiding behind social media and living with rose tinted spectacles!!! Definitely in my top 10!! :D (less)

Whilst I am not the target audience for this book (as I'm not a parent) I wholeheartedly adore how Laura opens up her soul and never once sugar coats a damn word in her story. I bloody love her Instagram account and even though I couldn't connect or relate to a lot of what the book was discussing, she deserves all the stars! (less)

Found this AMAZING lady via her viral posts on Facebook during lockdown.
This book was great, funny and incredibly moving in equal measures.
Incredibly honest and straight to the point, biographical and life affirming.
I'm not a parent but have struggled with my mental health, especially recently and this book has been the tonic I needed.
Highly recommended (less)

I’ve been following Laura for a while on social media, so I was lucky that I got a chance to read this. Funny with lots of swearing, but at least it’s honest!
Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.
