4.0 out of 5 stars Very nice book, but not enough storiesReviewed in the United States on March 16, 2013

The book contains some wonderful examples of Russian short stories. The overall quality of the construction of the book is very high. But I would personally like to have more than twenty stories in a single volume. If the reader is new to Russian literature and wants an introduction to it, this book would be a nice place to start. But for someone like me, who would potentially use the book as a college course text, it is not enough to meet my needs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Something good about these moralistic sorties.Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 8, 2019

Reads quick and simple, but you can see how short stories compare today.
These authors were writing in risky times. So we detect the underlying cynicism.
