A daring, yet gently written reflection on one of life's most important periods, Let Evening Come has the sensitivity and humor that will appeal to readers of any age. Mary C. Morrison explores the changes that take place as one ages, the gradual movement away from the center of life--work, family, community--to the periphery. Without glossing over the negative and depressed feelings that this can cause, Morrison highlights the benefits of relaxation, pure enjoyment , and time for reflection that old age can bring. The author shows how finding gallantry, dignity, and a positive outlook amid the changes aging brings is possible and rewarding.

This book spoke to me right where I am in my life. As a recent widow I am about to leave my home of 40 years to move into a retirement community. A friend recommended this book to me and it truly spoke to me and my present situation. I now plan to have my children read it so that they can better understand where I am in my life. I highly recommend it to both people who are in the evening of their lives and those who care about them.

"Let Evening Come", was loaned to me by an 83 year old friend. I am 52. The truths in this book are insightful and comforting. Mary Morrison is an honest, compassionate and generous writer. I read the book once and then returned it to my friend. I am ordering my own copy. "Let Evening Come" is a gift for any age; it is about life and living in grace. The reader learns a great deal from this book and is reminded of the place in the heart where age, if we are lucky, awaits us all.

The collection of journal entries give it authenticity. It avoids any sense of a lecture. After the first reading, I now pick it up and read at random. The nature of life's progression is seen as a journey influenced by the willingness of an individual to be fully present. After a week-end visit in which I discussed it with my daughter, she asked to borrow it. I am age eighty-eight and she is fifty.

A simple, yet poignant observation about aging. If you plan to live beyond 30 or so, a must read! I read it when I was in my thirties, and had a houseful of you g children to raise. I read it again at age 55 . I appreciate the observations in a different manner now. It is a book to read and re read through life.
