The Green New Deal: Why the Fossil Fuel Civilization Will Collapse by 2028, and the Bold Economic Plan to Save Life on Earth Kindle Edition
by Jeremy Rifkin (Author) Format: Kindle Edition
4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars (308)
New York Times–Bestselling Author: The renowned economic theorist explains how America can—and must—create a post-fossil fuel culture to survive.
We can’t keep doing business as usual. Facing a global emergency, a younger generation has spearheaded a national conversation around a Green New Deal—a movement with the potential to revolutionize society. But while the Green New Deal has become a lightning rod in the political sphere, there is a parallel movement emerging within the business community that will shake the very foundation of the global economy in coming years.
Key sectors of the economy are fast-decoupling from fossil fuels in favor of ever-cheaper solar and wind energies and the new business opportunities and employment that accompany them. New studies are sounding the alarm that trillions of dollars in stranded fossil fuel assets could create a carbon bubble likely to burst by 2028, causing the collapse of the fossil fuel civilization. The marketplace is speaking, and governments will need to adapt if they are to survive and prosper.
In The Green New Deal, Jeremy Rifkin delivers the political narrative and economic plan for the Green New Deal that we need at this critical moment in history. The concurrence of a stranded fossil fuel assets bubble and a green political vision opens up the possibility of a massive shift to a post-carbon ecological era, in time to prevent a temperature rise that will tip us over the edge into runaway climate change. With twenty-five years of experience implementing Green New Deal–style transitions for both the European Union and the People’s Republic of China, Rifkin offers his vision for how to transform the global economy and save life on Earth.
“The Green New Deal takes a stance quite different from that of typical Green New Deal supporters . . . he’s interested in building factories, farms, and vehicles in a fossil-free world, asserting that ‘the Green New Deal is all about infrastructure.’” —The New York Times Book Review
“An urgent endorsement of efforts to remake a doomed fossil-fuel economy before it’s too late.” —Kirkus Reviews

Brings the facts to bare. Well researched and argued. Perhaps a little preachy and evangelical at times, but this is due to cultural differences (I am Australian and just want the facts and conclusions).

1.0 out of 5 stars A forest of lies to push a socialist agendaReviewed in Australia on 1 January 2022
This book is a forest of lies. Virtually every claim is provably false. They use the junk science of Climate Change to justify a socialist agenda for the USA. People should remember that socialism has a monopoly on concentration camps and genocide, from China, USSR to the National Socialists Workers Party (Nazi Party), and Pol Pot.
The Green New Deal and this book are thoroughly toxic.

Excellent book. Very interesting and relevant. Hopefully the GND ideas can be trialled much more extensively globally, sooner rather than later.

5.0 out of 5 stars A vision for our future in the face of climate changeReviewed in the United States on 22 January 2020

Some climate change denial readers have tried to undermine this important book in their reviews. If you are concerned about the urgency of climate change, get your hands on this book and share it with others. Rifkin is a creative and innovative thinker who points the way to a third industrial revolution that can capitalize on renewable energy. He also warns of the likelihood that carbon based investments will become stranded assets over the coming decade. His work is well documented and helps to make sense of our options for the future. This books is important, informative, and easy to read in audible or hard copy,

4.0 out of 5 stars Hat schon einmal funktioniert. Mut der Politik fehlt!Reviewed in Germany on 18 February 2020

5.0 out of 5 stars Certi libri bisogna averli e leggerliReviewed in Italy on 25 February 2021

Malgrado tutto.
