This is a variety of reference book, but it has no page numbers, and that makes it frustrating and very time-consuming to read. The content that I have managed to read amounts to a decent summary, so the page problem is a pity. Hmnn… calling NT Wright a rock-star theologian is a bit cringeworthy.

I was looking forward to the publication of this eBook on theology by N.T. Wright. And the anticipation was not disappointed.
Watling's book is a good starting point for Wright newcomers to delve into a topic depending on your interest. For Wright experienced, Watling's publication is a help to reduce and sort your own thoughts.

Watling provides a brief, concise presentation of the theology of the popular Anglican New Testamentist N.T. Wright. He knows how to summarize important Wright's statements in a concise way and present the main messages in simple sketches. Despite the brevity, the display of Wattling looks stringent and you can follow the red thread without any problems

A chapter on Wright's Church and Academic career, as well as his concern, is followed by a presentation of the “fresh” elements that Wright is able to bring into the theological dialogue (reading the Bible as a story, etc.). The third chapter describes the implications of a changed understanding of the story. In the final fourth chapter, Watling summarizes what, according to Wright, it means to live in God's new world, which dawned in Jesus Christ. This is about eschatological issues, where heaven and earth finally marry (see book title).
Two attachments enrich the book. In the first appendix, Watling answers so-called FAQ's on Wright's theology. The answers are the opinion of the author who talks to Wright.
The second appendix “Digging deeper” has been very successful. For each chapter of the book, Watling provides clear Wright material. Unfortunately, reference is mainly made to the general books and only occasionally to Wright's main work.
Watling takes up questions, findings, and stories from his experiences in the daily life of the Church and offers alternatives with Wright. For example, when he speaks of the fact that often in sermons from the drama of the Bible only ideas and principles are distilled. Watling with Wright opposes this is about recognizing the acts of the drama of the Bible and the intended question. According to Wright, the question of which pervades the metanarrative of the Bible is: “How does God save/protect his project World?” Recognizing this question and the course of the acts in the drama will enable the community of the Church to improvise in the final act.
Critical
Appraisal I Am at the very beginning of my master's thesis on the theology of N.T. Wright. Here, Watling's summary has provided me with tremendous service. His book helped me focus once again on the essentials of Wright's theology and not get lost in footnote discussions and interesting debates. This is all too easy with Wright's extensive work.
The meaningful quotations with corresponding references make it possible to continue reading directly from Wright himself for a deeper examination of an interesting topic.
The current references to relevant Internet documents in the Wright Vita chapter (videos, interviews, reports in well-known journals) are also helpful. This allows you to learn a lot about Wright's intention and motivation. The reports show that Wright seeks not to understand theology, practice and spirituality as separate disciplines. The individual spheres of Christian existence are to expand each other fruitfully.
In a next edition, a chapter on Wright hermeneutics (critical realism) would be desirable. His understanding of Scripture is significant, and which New Testamentist presents his methodology as transparent as Wright (in: The New Testament and the People of God)? His hermeneutics is right now that leaves him between chair and bench, between “conservative” and “liberal”. And which eventually leads to all the important, new, fresh insights that Watling excellently summarizes.
In some places, the depiction of Wright's theology seems somewhat uncritical and brilliant. According to Watling, there is a “before” Wright and an “after” in theology (ex: The understanding of the Kingdom of God). This may be a little bit high. If Wright's findings were actually so lonely and outstanding in the landscape, this would not be a sign of theologically sound work. On almost all topics, from the Bible as a metanrative to the Kingdom of God to eschatology, other theologians have also spoken in similar directions before and with Wright.What distinguishes Wright is certain that he is able to summarize the various aspects of his turn into a story and can convey his findings to interested laymen from a wide variety of contexts. But Watling also does not represent the claim of a critical reflection of Wright's theology. He wants to explicitly summarize Wright's approach. Any discussion in conversation with other theological opinions would not do justice to the goal.
It is to be hoped that this successful e-book will soon be published in German. This would allow Wright's important, fresh ideas to find the legitimate wider distribution in the German-speaking countries. Unfortunately, there are still many students, theologians, pastors who hardly dare to learn English literature.
As a book lover, I would be very happy if it didn't stay with the e-book. So that I can place the printed version of The Marriage on my shelf next to the detailed volumes of Wright. Or so that the theology students I work with can edit the book as a mandatory reading (reservations about e-books). But most of all, a printed edition would be great so I can wrap the book and give it away. 'Cause it's really a gift Watling gave us here. I'm happy to pass that on.

... and this is why I am grateful for this excellent summary of the most important ideas of N.T. Wright. In these pages we can find the master theologians thoughts, condensed into 50 pictures – and a couple of accompanying paragraphs with each point, weaving a common thread throughout, with remarks about worldview and approach. This book succeeds at giving us an executive summary that leaves one wanting to dig deeper, with a good measure of original quotes from the author sprinked throughout. And, in general, let it be said that that is not an easy feat to summarize theology in general, and Wright in particular, knowing about the somewhat elobarate style of his works.
Another upside of the book: the images. Playful, creatively done, to the point – underlining the message, helping the reader grasp and remember the paradigm for a long time to come.
I recommend this book highly to anyone who is looking into N.T. Wrights writings for the first time – or might be (very) familiar with him, and wants to add this creative, new angle and take on his or her (in)complete collection of Wrights works. Chapeau to the author, well done!

This is a wonderful book. A very helpful introduction to and summary of NT Wright's key thoughts, arguably the top theologian and biblical scholar today. I loved the arrangement of the book which enables the reader to "hook" the main ideas in a systematic order. Wright is a theologian who must be read by church people - pastors, preachers, Christians who don't have time for heavy academic reading, etc. This book is just what is needed for such people. Marlin Watling has provided a tool that can be used to read NT Wright with greater clarity - it's like treasure hunting through Wright's books with clues provided in this book. I highly recommend it.
And the illustrations are delightful. A bonus addition to this brilliant book.
