As the title implies, this work may well be of special interest to students of Indian Buddhism. But it is also a most useful tool for students of Sino-Japanese Buddhism trying to sort out the volumes of later translations of (especially Mahayana) scriptures and commentaries, and varying beliefs and practices extending over centuries in scores of countries.
As a Japanese Buddhist, Professor Nakamura inevitably wrote his "Indian Buddhism: a Survey with Bibliographical Notes" with a view to Chinese and Japanese sources and the subsequent adaptations of Indian thought to the differing social climates of China and Japan.
For the student of Japanese Buddhism this is a godsend. Many notes, indices, Sino-Japanese characters.
