the kids are not alright…

Hal Conick
So less dutiful, more anxious, less agreeable, and less outgoing.
Sounds like my honeymoon.
Ash Tyson
Hal Conick sounds like all prison systems

Before you jump aboard the Haidt bandwagon, see the methodological critique and counter-arguments of BC professor Peter Gray.
Randy Goldner
John Elphand I see a lot of overlap between Gray and Haidt, don't you? No less than 4 of his 6 conditions for self-directed learning are practically identical to what Haidt says.

When your neck is bent downwards most of the day facing a screen and getting daily critiques from social media , that might have something to do with the younger people’s poor scores here . Not all but it’s definitely part of the equation

Between this and the magafication of the country, kids being raised to aspire to trumpian arrogance toward "lesser" people, I worry for the future of our society. I wonder what the trend would be in Canada where I'm pondering moving to.

Yeah but besides neuroticism for older people, all age groups are on similar tilted trajectories. Young people have less money, less power, and are witnessing adults acting like idiots, all within a system that requires their attachment to toxic technology to participate in the world and economy. No wonder they're anxious, vigilant, and insecure. But also, according to this study, we all are...?
Candace Makitalo
Lack of connection and mindfulness play a part imo...and being hyper-aware of an increasingly unstable world...
Luis F. Cabrera
Candace Makitalo Increasingly unstable parents will do that to kids.
Vlad Davidiuk
Can confirm - have experienced this. Millennials & Gen Z the absolute *worst*.

Agreeableness? Surely that's a highly subjective attribute. Curious what criteria it was based on.

When a boomer teils you, that the youth is the worst youth ever ...

Small price to pay for Zuck's getting richer. Read The Anxious Generation or Careless People and you won't be surprised in the slightest by this trend.
Mike Parwana
I’m over 60, I can tell you that I am far less conscientious than I was before the Covid pandemic. Partly it’s that I don’t have to maintain the level of work I’ve done for most of my life, and partly it is that the expectation instantaneous contact is too much for humans to deal with.
Brian Kennedy
We have conflated rudeness with honesty.
Karen Campbell
The Entitlement Generation was given everything they wanted, and therefore did not develop work ethic. Those of us who had to hustle lawn mowing/leaf raking/snow shoveling learned early that conscientiousness (leaving the place spotless) got us paid; half-assing it got you sent back to do it right.

Karen Campbell You are spouting the very poison that is part of the problem, Karen! 🙄

Hey, you just came up with the most concise description of the Boomers I've seen! Kudos!

Learned from our parents.

Feckless, self-absorbed & self-obsessed…🙄

Maybe *that* explains my subordinates' lack of diligence at work!

The pandemic sent everyone home
The internet divided us further with algorithms baiting on the back of ad dollars
With those same algorithms increasing fear and doubt
No surprise here

We're raising generations of narcissists. The fact that our culture is one already driven by "individual rights" (which is different from individualism generally), now we are escalating that to mean that we need not look out for one another at all. It's a country full of Cartmanns, and lesser-educated, disrespectful (not that Cartmann was every respectful) ones at that.
It's a pity.

Employers report that Gen Zers do not work well in groups, do not manage their time well, and do not seem committed to their work. They are prone to job hopping, are often unwilling to work full time hours and confuse effort with results.
In recent ETS-OECD tests of job skills, young Americans not only scored lower than all previous American generations, but placed last and near to last in mathematical, verbal, and technical skills among an international group of counterparts.
Genevieve Seaman
My granddaughter is a prime example of this. Have a difficult time connecting with her.

At least they are super tolerant and agreeable...oh wait...
