About the author
AQAhmad Javid (Sarwari Qaderi) MD FAAP
Dr. Ahmad Javid is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Born in Pakistan and raised in a traditional religious and spiritual household, he has experienced the reality of Sufism from an early age. In fact, he is a twelfth-generation Sufi with ancestral lineage going back to Syed Muhammad Al Hussaini Gisudiraz, the famous saint of Decan, who was descendant of Imam Hussain (may God be pleased with him), son of Hazrat Ali Ibn Abi Talib (may God be pleased with him), the fourth caliph of Islam, leading to the fountainhead of all spirituality, Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH). He received his medical degree from Khyber Medical College, Peshawar, Pakistan, in 1973. He is Diplomat in Pediatrics from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Glasgow, and the University College Dublin, Ireland. He spent seventeen years in Iran where he extensively studied Sufi literature and poetry. He came to the United States in 1993 and finished residency training in Pediatrics from Columbia University, New York, where he served as a chief resident as well. He has been invested with khirqa (cloak) in the Sarwari Qaderi order. He is the author of 'Sufi light: the secret of meditation' and 'The Spirit of a Sultan,' 'Sufi Prayer and Love,' all of them are available on Amazon.com.

If I had to describe this book in a single phrase, I would call it as - incredible depth presented in accessible simplicity. Sufi Experience has a sort of living-breathing etymology that’s rich in meaning, soul nurturing and deeply moving. It can be consumed as a great daily read to lead into meditation. And also as a complete introduction of the Sufi path. This book helps us understand ourselves, God, and the world through the innate good qualities present in all of us. The book suggests practices that can help us get both into and beyond our limited selves. If one wishes for an all inclusive, expansive and heart centered spirituality beyond dogma and religiosity, then I highly recommend this book.

There is just so much value in this single volume.

Even for a non-practitioner of this faith-tradition, there is a treasure trove of insight to be gained by reading this book. Combining classical, orthodox Islamic Hadith and direct quotations from Qur'an, as well as interpretations thereof, the reader gets to listen to the qualities or properties associated with God's being. The many epithets used in the book are discussed through the lenses of personal experiences, Sufi stories and poetry, healthy doses of introspection, science and laughter. This is an incredibly beautiful, well-researched, provocative, and ultimately deeply uplifting book. Especially for those who are willing to take time with it and do the hard work.

Ahmad Javid is a wonderful interpreter of the text traditions of Islamic mysticism. The said mysticism is the known precursor to many of modern spiritual-religious philosophies. The writer through his commentary was able to show the common spiritual roots of both Judeo-Christian and Islamic traditions. His precise writing makes the message crystal clear, irrespective of how muddy and troubled the modern religious messages turn out to be. He has done great service by introducing to our society the importance of many Muslim traditions and particularly in the Sufi path. This book goes into the deep end more than other translations, and so makes it more accessible to readers who come to the text from outside Islam. It is a fantastic read whether or not you are a Sufi.

A worthwhile read. I love the way the writer brings us closer to the Living and Loving God "Allah". How to forge this bond with Dr Javied's experiences. There are also practical methods which can be applied to become God concious, and which gives introspection to our relationship with God. It makes me want to enter and be in the divine presence. Its lives up to its name a Seekers guide.
