This is an enjoyable, engaging read that lays out principles to succeed and gives concrete examples of how people have put theory into action. I was afraid the author - who has an inspiring story of her own: internet pioneer, Chairwoman of National Geographic, CEO of a charitable organization - would just write a self-aggrandizing memoir, but the book is full of real stories and is an inspiring roadmap for success. Quite nice. Check it out.

I've been proud to count Jean Case as a friend for over a decade -- and this book is a wonderful presentation of everything that is Jean: fierce, inspiring, candid, important. It tells her story -- ups and downs -- and the stories of countless other "normal" people who have found a way to have impact in business, government, non-profits, and the world at large. It has concrete advice on how to "Be Fearless" and valuable insights from those who have succeeded in doing so. No matter who you are, this book is for you!

This is the best playbook for living a fearless life that I have come across to date. Through the five "Be Fearless" principles, it provides actionable steps to adopt a confident and risk-taking mindset, and explores the paths of changemakers across industries. This is a powerfully-written tool for any entrepreneur, and provides a fantastic mix of stories about famous successes and failures, personal anecdotes from the author, and inspiring tales of fearlessness by unknown heroes. Highly recommend!

Be Fearless is inspiring and enlightening. It’s a must read for anyone who wants to go from good to great, and filled with stories of some of the most prominent fearless changemakers and everyday heroes articulating how they overcame fear to create incredible breakthroughs. Jean also shares her own narrative in a way she’s never done before - a Midwest girl raised by a single mom to an internet pioneer, philanthropic role model and first woman chair of National Geographic... and all of the unlikely amazing adventures that journey has included. This is a book that will become a standard reference on my bookshelf.

What are you afraid of? That simple question can make one realize what’s holding us, and unlock unlimited human potential. Only by understanding one’s fears, one can overcome them. Jean Case’s “Be Fearless” is the perfect recipe for that. She has analyzed dozens of success stories and synthesized the reasons why people succeed in five clear principles - and compelling examples. The book’s succession of stories of personal (and world) transformation is rich and breath-taking. These stories are not limited to world leaders and technological pioneers, but also include normal people from normal towns, like Jean herself, who became leaders in their field. That is only inspiring but also encouraging: achieving our goals and dreams, or overcoming difficulties, is at everyone’s reach. “Be Fearless” has become my favorite book on leadership, and I’ll make sure my colleagues read it and apply its principles. It certainly has helped me regain my fearlessness.

This book is incredible. Jean Case is perhaps the most under-rated business leader of the last generation. She played a critical leadership role in AOL, creating the Internet (do you remember being mailed CDs? Thank Jean!) Then, she was a leading voice in creating the impact investment industry, moving philanthropy into the 21st century; and now, as the chair of the National Geographic Society, she’s fighting the battle for the future of our planet’s health. Unlike many memoirs, which boil down to “here is why I am awesome,” Jean’s is vulnerable and accessible. she talks about herself, and other heroes (like Chef Jose Andres), who took real risks and learned incredible lessons when they did—and didn’t—work. Jean’s story is likable, accessible, and inspiring-an amazing read!

This book is a great, accessible distillation of key steps anyone can take if they want to create a breakthrough - big or small. Being fearless isn't just limited to the really famous or privileged - in this book, Jean shares inspirational stories of people who come from all sorts of backgrounds and motivations, some who have achieved lots of fame and wealth, some who are under the radar. What they have in common is a few key characteristics that will inspire anyone who reads to think about how they can be more fearless in their own lives.
