Yuishiki (Sanskrit: विज्ञप्तिमात्रता Vijñapti - mātratā) is one of the views of Mahayana Buddhism that an individual and all existence for an individual consists of only eight types of consciousness (eight consciousnesses). It is one ( the Yugagyo Yushin school ). Here, the eight types of consciousness refer to the five senses (visual, auditory, olfactory, gustatory, and tactile), consciousness, and two layers of unconsciousness. Therefore, these eight types of consciousness collectively include a wide range of representations and cognitive acts of an individual, as well as all states of consciousness and areas of the individual's unconscious that interact with them.
If all beings are nothing more than individually conceived consciousness, then they are subjective beings and not objective beings. These existences are impermanent, and at times they will repeat their births and deaths and eventually disappear into the past. In other words, these existences are "empty" and have no substance (the emptiness of all laws). In this way, only consciousness is thenull()is based on the idea of In addition, only consciousness and idealism in Western philosophy are fundamentally and finally distinguished (described later).
Overview [ edit ]
Only-conscious thought asserts that the world for each individual is nothing more than a representation (image) of that individual, and assumes eight kinds of "consciousness" (eight senses theory).

An example of a conceptual diagram of the Eight Principles - First of all, senses such as sight and hearing are also considered to be consciousness in terms of only consciousness. It is believed that there are five senses, each of which is visual, auditory , nasal , gustatory , and physical . , touch , etc.). These are collectively called the " previous five senses ."
- Then comes consciousness , or conscious awareness. Since it is the sixth, it is sometimes called " sixth consciousness ", but it has the same meaning. Also, combining the previous five senses and consciousness, the six senses orin force()It says.
- under itManas consciousness()It is assumed that the subconscious called is the mind that continues to cling to itself even when you are asleep or awake. During deep sleep, the action of consciousness ceases, but even during that time, the inner consciousness is active and is said to be attached to the self.
- Underneath this is the fundamental consciousness called Araya-vijñāna, which gives rise to the five pre-consciousness, consciousness, and final consciousness, which in turn gives birth to the body and interacts with other consciousness . It is also thought that the world is what we think of as the "world".
If all beings are only individually conceived consciousness, then they are subjective beings and not objective beings. These existences are impermanent, and at times they will repeat their births and deaths and eventually disappear into the past. That is to say, these existences (colors) are 'empty' and are insubstantial (color is emptiness) .
Yushiki is a system of thought with an epistemological tendency advocated by a sect of early Mahayana Buddhism called Yugagyo Yuishikigaku, which appeared in India in the 4th century. Yugagyo only school is the middle schoolnull()Even though I inherited the thought, I tried to gain enlightenment by controlling and changing the way of the mind by supposing that the function of the mind exists for the time being, and changing it (Yoshiki Mukyo ) . = There is only consciousness, the outside world does not exist).
It is said that the colors (shiki, matter) of this world consist only of mental actions, so it is sometimes seen on the same level as Western spiritualism . However, in Eastern thought and Buddhist monotheism, the existence of the mind is provisional, and its mental function is ultimately denied (Consciousness fades away(), the outside world and consciousness disappear). Therefore, only consciousness and idealism are quite different in this respect. In addition, since only consciousness emphasizes the realm of the unconscious, it is clearly different from idealism, which states that ``consciousness defines all existence''.
Only-conscious thought had a wide influence on later Mahayana Buddhism in general.
Consciousness interactions and enlightenment [ edit ]
Etymologically, only consciousness means "only awareness" [1] .
There is no "thing" outside the mind [ edit ]
The basis of Mahayana Buddhism is that all things in this world are based on dependent origination, that is, relationships. The monotheism theory complements that theory, and believes that people only recognize the phenomenon, and that there is no physical existence outside the mind. This is called ``Yui-shiki Mukyo'' (the ``boundary'' is the world outside the mind) or the boundary of Yui-shiki Shohen (things in the external world can be changed by shiki). In addition, each human being recognizes the world created by the Alaya-sensei deep within each person's heart ( human-human only-sense ). Feeling as if there is a common objective world with others is the seed (Kuyu Seeds(), later) exists.
Ayaya-shitsu and the workings of seeds [ edit ]
When a human being does something, speaks, or thinks, the effect is recorded in something called the seed (the content of the aya-sensei), and is thought to be stored in the aya-sensei . thistraining()It says. Just as a scent permeates a garment, the influence of actions is stored in the Ayaya consciousness (Current Kaoru seeds()). For this reason, aya-shiki is also called kura-shiki or issai-seedashiki . ʻAraya' in ARAYASHIKI is a Sanskrit word meaning ʻa storehouse'. Furthermore, each seed has the potential to interact with each other within the arya consciousness and produce new seeds (Seed begets seed())。
In addition, the seed may jump out of the aya-consciousness and act on the final-consciousness/consciousness. Furthermore, when the five senses (sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch) are acted upon, they may receive edge from phenomena in the external world. This seed passes through consciousness and the final consciousness from the previous five senses, jumps into the Alaya consciousness, and is trained as a seed by the Alaya consciousness. This is considered to be thinking and recognition of the external world (Current seed production()). this cycleAyayashi Engi()Say.
Ultimately, the mind has no substance [ edit ]
This change in consciousness is impermanent , repeating birth and death in an instant ( setsunametsu ), and when that moment ends, it disappears into the past.
Since we grasp the self and the world surrounding ourselves in this way, all things that we think of as ``things'' are only ``phenomena'', ``empty'' and insubstantial. At the same time, however, he argues that both the seed and consciousness itself are phenomena and do not have substance. This is subtly different from idealism in Western thought . The existence of the mind is also an illusion-like, dream-like existence ( empty ), and ultimately its existence is denied (Kyoushigubi).
When it is simply called 'Yushiki,' it may refer to Yuishiki sect ( Hosso sect ), Yuishikaku sect, and Yuishiku.
Characteristics of only-minded thought [ edit ]
It is a system of thought that doctrinally supports the wisdom obtained from yoga practice (meditation), which is a more refined form of yoga, an ancient Indian training method, in order to master the central tenets of Buddhism, impermanence and selflessness .
- Categorize the movement of your heart and set up eight senses. In particular, Senna-shiki and Araya-shiki were the first to pay attention to the field of the unconscious as deep psychology.

- Through the practice of yoga, the concrete view of "only-mindedness" was systematized doctrinally.
- He argued that the one-way preaching of the Lotus Sutra was expedient and that not everyone could attain Buddhahood. (5 genders)

- While inheriting the emptiness of the Hannya Sutra , first of all, from the standpoint that wisdom exists temporarily, we try to reach enlightenment through the practice of yoga practice .
Founding and development [ edit ]
Only consciousness was established and systematized in India , passed through Central Asia , was transmitted to China and Japan , and spread to Tibet , forming the basis of Mahayana Buddhism . It was studied as a basic study of Buddhism along with Kusharon , and research continues even today.
Establishment and development in India [ edit ]
Yushiki is the middle Mahayana Buddhist scriptures, following the flow of the early Mahayana scriptures " Hannya Sutra " ``Issue all emptiness'' and the `` Kegon Sutra'' ``Sankaisaku Yuishin'' of the Jujibon.Depths of Mystery Sutra()』『Mahayana Abi Daruma Sutra()was established as It is thought that there was a long period of contemplation and discussion through the practice of a group that practiced yoga practice (meditation).
As a theory , it originated from Maitreya and was perfected by brothers Asanga and Vasbandhu . Unauthored is "Mahayana theory()", the world parent said "Thirty Songs of Consciousness(), and `` Twenty Routines of only consciousness ''. In ``Only Consciousness Twenty Theory'', while strongly asserting that ``the world is nothing more than an individual's representation and perception,'' he also argued that there is an indescribable substance. In `` Thirty Admirals of Only Understanding ,'' he advocated the above-mentioned Eight Senses theory, and partially showed deep psychological and biological tendencies. Regarding Maitreya, there is a theory that he is a real person in history, and there is a theory that he is a future Buddha.Tushita day()There are two theories, one is that it is Maitreya Bodhisattva in Japan, but it has not been settled.
It is said that ten major disciples appeared after Seshin. Only the Nalanda Monastery (Nālanda), built in the early 5th century , was actively studied. At the beginning of the 6th century, Guṇamati from Nalanda moved to Valabhī in West India, where his disciple sthiramati wrote a commentary on the Thirty Admirals of Only Wisdom . and taught many disciples. This lineage is called "Nirākāravādin" (Nirākāravādin) [2] .
This school of thought was introduced to China by Paramārtha, and was extensively studied for a period of time as the Jiron sect and the Setron sect .
On the other hand, Dignāga , who was active in the early 5th century , further developed the theory of Seichi's book `` Twenty Routines of Only Understanding '' to express ``Kanshoenron'' (ālambanaparīkṣā), the lineage of which is ``yes''. It is called sākāravādin, but it was transmitted to asvabhāva (around the first half of 6C) and Dharmapāla, and was actively studied and studied at the Nalanda Temple.
Spread to China and Japan [ edit ]
Xuanzang , a study abroad monk who went to India from China , studied under the disciples of the law, śīlabhadra, at this Nalanda temple . After returning to Japan, he translated "Thirty Advice on Yui Shiki", introducing the opinions of other scholars and criticizing them, centering on the commentaries on the Dharma.Consciousness()is.
Then, centering on this book, Xuanzang's disciple Jion Daishiki ( orpeep base()) byHoso sect()was established, and a highly logical study of monotheism began in China. Since the de facto founder is the foundation, the Hosso sect calls Genjooriginator()are called separately. After that, the Hosso sect in China prospered due to Xuanzang's translation of the sutras and its popularity , and as a result, the Jiron sect and the Setron sect , which arose based on the treatises translated by Shintetsu, declined.
After that, the Hosso sect was introduced to Japan by Dosho , Chimitsu , Chiho , and Genbo , and it became one of Nanto's six sects after it was studied at the height of the Nara period . This tradition was inherited mainly by Kofuku-ji Temple , Horyu-ji Temple and Yakushi - ji Temple in Nara, and Kiyomizu-dera Temple in Kyoto .Discussion()Along with this, it was passed down as a basic study of Buddhism. There is also the phrase ``only knowledge for 3 years and 8 years for Kusha'' because it is very difficult to understand only knowledge and kusha theory. Due to the abolition of Buddhism in the Meiji period , Japan's sensible teachings temporarily declined, but they were revived through the efforts of Sadatane SAEKI of Horyu-ji Temple . Horyuji has left the Hosso sect as the Shotoku sect, and Kiyomizudera has seceded from the Hosso sect as the Kita Hosso sect , and Kofuku-ji Temple and Yakushi- ji Temple are the main temples of the Hosso sect in Japan.
Change of consciousness [ edit ]
Only-conscious thought claims that the world is merely a consciousness, a representation, or an image in the mind. The existence of the external world does not actually exist, but only appears as if it exists. This is explained in the "Kegon Sutra" as follows.
Also, create your own thoughts, make the three worlds illusions, but only create your mind. It depends on everyone's heart.
I regret to make it again. Delusion of the Three Realms. However, it is made by heart. Twelve rims. All devotion——Dafang Guangfo Flower Adornment Sutra Ten Land Grades Twenty-Second Third
Consciousness is mind. It is said that the sutra is based on the root that the mind gathers and forms as the master. Because it is the basis of understanding and understanding, it is called only consciousness. Alternatively, the sutra says that righteousness leads to cause and effect, and is generally said to be pure mind. The theory is called only consciousness because it preaches that there is only a cause. Shiki is the meaning of understanding, and since the function of Shiki is strong within Ini, it is explained as Shiki and limited to Yui. It's not literally two things. In "Twenty Ron", he preaches that the names of mind, consciousness, consciousness, and ryo are discriminatory.
Intellectual Shinya. Yushin gathering. The main source of the work is Yuishin. Reasonable Tatsuno's root cause. A mere conscience or a mere thought of the general cause and effect. Argument only exists, but only consciousness. Differentiate. Because of the strength of the presence of the origin. Only for understanding. There is no other reason. Twenty words. Conscious mind. name discrimination.——Volume 1 of Yilin Chapter of the Mahayana Dharma Garden of Master Ci’en [ 3]
This movement of the mind is called the transformation (pariṇāma) of consciousness (vijñāna). There are three types of transformation, which are
- Ripe()- maturity of the act
- consider()- what is called thinking
- farewell()- Target identification
are three. The transfiguration of consciousness is a conception. What is conceived by it is not real. Therefore, the whole world is only identification.
First Nohen [ edit ]
The different maturity is the aryaya-consciousness (knowledge called primordial), which contains all the seeds (bīja). It always accompanies touch, attention, sensation, thought, and will. Sensitivity is unbiased, and it is undisturbed and neutral. Feeling and others are also the same. And the primordial knowledge is active like a torrent. "Like a Storm"
Second Nohen [ edit ]
Final consciousness (mano nāma vijñāna) acts on the basis of alaya-consciousness, takes alaya-consciousness as its object, and has thinking action as its essence. The final knowledge is always accompanied by the four disturbing androgynous worldly desires. They are called Gami (belief about the individual self), Gachi (confusion about the individual self), Patience (conceit about the individual self), and Gaai (attachment to the individual self). Above all, it accompanies only that which belongs to the same world or station in which it is born. In addition, it accompanies feeling and the like.
This ultimate consciousness may be called ego consciousness. It is also called "dirty mind (manas)" because it is always accompanied by worldly desires. With this final knowledge and consciousness, there is thought, and the remnants of that intentional karma are also cultivated by the aya consciousness as a seed.
Third power change [ edit ]
Reconciliation is the third transmutation, perceiving six kinds of objects.
The six senses are: eye sense for color (shiki, rūpa), ear sense for voice, nasal sense for scent, tongue sense for taste, body sense for touch (things that can be touched), and consciousness for law (thinking). object, concept). And these six consciousnesses also arise from the aya consciousness. The final consciousness and these six consciousnesses are the 'current consciousness', which we regard as the field of consciousness, and the Araya consciousness is the unconsciousness.
The explanation so far has been about the flow from the aya-shiki to the final and 6-shiki (Tanesei Gengen). seeds) are also available. That is the meaning of Araya (= storehouse), and it circulates with each other.
Any act (karma), including consciousness, is present for a moment and passes into the past. At that time, he left an extra lesson for Ayayashiki. It accumulates as a seed in the aya-consciousness, matures, undergoes a ``transformation of consciousness,'' and various consciousnesses arise again, and actions occur again.
Trinity [ edit ]
Suppose there are three ways to see the mode of existence through this transformation of consciousness.
- parikalpita , conceived existence The everyday perception of ordinary people.
- Dependency (paratantra) Relative existence, existence dependent on others
- Enjojissho (pariniṣpanna) absolute existence, perfected existence
Such a view is the basis of Mahayana Buddhism without waiting for only consciousness, and its prototype has already been preached in the Hannya Sutra .
Pervasive obstinacy corresponds to the object created by the Ayaya-shiki, Mina-shiki, and Six-consciousness, which does not exist and is empty.

"There is no place for various laws. There is no place like this, there is no place like this. Not knowing this is called ignorance."— Maka Hannya Haramitsu Sutra Act No. 10
Dependency is a relative existence, and although it is a conception, it is to perceive that things are caused by the gathering of various chances (engi). Although it is the conception of all consciousness, including aya-consciousness, if it becomes clear that the object of that consciousness is nothing, then this existence, which is dependent on the object, is also empty.
A surname is a law that can create a harmony of fate. However, I preach a sensible recollection and a pseudonym.
Therefore, when performing Bodhisattva Mahkasatsu and Prajnaparamitsu, he does not look at any surnames.

Engagement is a conception of Buddha and can be called an absolute existence. This is neither different nor different from dependentness. Enseisei is the state in which the previous obsessiveness has been completely eliminated from the dependent nature.
After returning, Shariputra. Bodhisattva Mahkasattva, if you want to know the nature, nature, and reality of all the Dharma, you should study the Prajnaparamitsu.— Preface to Maha Prajna Paramita Book No. 1
As mentioned above, at the stage of the Hannya-kyo Sutra, the three natures are not collectively described. After going back in time and waiting for the " Explanation of the Deep Mistra " (translated by Xuanzang), he preached that there are three aspects of various laws. This does not mean that there are three types of law, but that the law manifests itself in three different forms depending on the state of the person who sees it.
In short, there are three types of laws.
Do something like three.
The first is Hengesho Shiso, the second is Yorita Kiso, and the third is Ensei Jitsuso.
What is the ruler of all laws?
So to speak, in the name of all laws, self-discrimination on temporary grounds, or for the purpose of commanding discourse.
What are the origins of various laws?
In other words, it is the natural nature of the relationship between all laws. Therefore, there is this, therefore there is this. Because this is born, he is not born.
It is said that ignorance leads to ignorance or invites pure suffering.
What is the true meaning of the various laws?
In other words, it is the truth of all legal equality. In this truth, the bodhisattvas of all the bodhisattvas, because of their bravery and diligence, and because they regard Nyori's intentions and indomitable thought as their fate, are able to convey this. Gradually collect in this notice,direction()to testify to— Depth and Secret Sutra All Legal Compatibility No. 4
It is an indirect expression that phase depends on sex, but in the treatise on only consciousness, it is expressed as the three natures of obsessiveness, dependentness, and enseijitsu, and elaborate arguments are developed. Become so.
Of the three natures, the first, omnipotent obstinacy, by its nature, is already non-existent. Dependency is also empty, because it lacks independent existence. In addition, the same dependency-occurrence is the third circumstantiality as the absoluteness of the element of existence. And in any state, it is called true because it is the appearance of the truth as it is. The true state of things is the truth of "only discernment". Awareness of this is nothing less than a change from the world of confusion to the world of enlightenment.
However, in the practical stage, we must not insist on ``only discernment''. When the activity of cognition ceases to perceive phenomena at all, it settles in the truth of 'only discernment'. This is because if the object of recognition does not exist, there is no recognition of it either. It became mindless, senseless. It is a perception that transcends the world, and by eradicating the two types of obstacles of worldly desires (attachment to self) and shochi (attachment to things in the external world), aya-shitsu brings about changes (Acquisition of knowledge()). This is the realm apart from dirt, beyond thought, good, lasting and joyous. Those who obtain it are liberated and called the Dharma of the Buddha (Oen Kyotomo())。

Mindfulness and consciousness [ edit ]
In "Kegon Sutra," Yuishin refers to 'the righteousness of gathering'. Since the Kegon Sutra speaks from the standpoint of an enlightened Buddha, it is said that all phenomena of existence are taken into one's mind as they are, and that the whole world and the universe are within one's mind. Therefore, since all the origins are collected , it is said that "the righteousness of the collection" is Yushin.
In the theory of only consciousness, ``the righteousness of Ryobetsu'' is called only consciousness. Since I am speaking from the side of ordinary people (usually human beings), I am trying to look at the human way of thinking. By recognizing all phenomena of existence, they can become phenomena of existence that they themselves can recognize and infer, so they themselves accept and distinguish them. Therefore, it is said that ``Ryōbetsu no Gi'' is only conscious. It is not the mind, but the 'consciousness' of the body that works to understand each other, not the organ. Organs are existing phenomena.
However, even if it is called mindlessness or only consciousness, its essence is one. Discussed in detail, the word yuishin can be understood both at the stage of training (ini) and at the stage of attaining enlightenment and becoming a Buddha (attainment). Since it depends on whether or not one recognizes and infers it, it is applicable only to the training stage (Ini) before attaining enlightenment. 'Yi' has a simple meaning, and simply 'Yi' means that there is no law (existence) other than Shiki. "Ki" means understanding. Ryobetsu no Kokoro has 3 types (first power change, 2nd power change, and 3rd power change) for short, and 8 types (Hakshiki) in a broad sense. Collectively, this is called “knowledge”.
Consciousness and Being [ edit ]
To say that there are only eight consciousnesses, as described above, means that all things do not depart from these eight consciousnesses. It is not that there is no existence (dharma) other than the Eight Consciousness. They are roughly divided into five laws (five types of existence). (1) heart , (2) heart , (3) color , (4) disproportionate, (5) idleness . The first four are ``things,'' and the last is ``ri.'' These are called the five laws.
- 心(心王, citta) - consciousness itself. It is the central body of the mind and is also called the "eight minds".
- Caitasika - the function of consciousness . It is a detailed mental action that accompanies Shin-O, and is further classified into 6 types: Pilgrimage, Bukkyo, Goodness, Worldly Desires, Zuisly Worldly Desires, and Uncertainty , and further divided into 51 more detailed hearts . It is also translated as mind ownership method and heart number method .
- Color (rūpa) - Manifestations of mind and heart, perceived as so-called material things such as bodies and things.
- Unsuitable behavior (viprayukta-saṃskāra) - Discrimination between mind, heart and color quantiles. It is neither mind nor matter, and it is the principle that makes phenomena phenomena.
- Wuwei (asaṃskṛta) - the substance of the four former laws. Truth that should be called the essence of the phenomenon .
Furthermore, they are divided into 8 minds, 51 minds, 11 colors, 24 unsuitable actions, and 6 non-actions, and are divided into 100 types in total, so they are called Goi Hyakuho . In addition, Kusharon preached ' Five rank seventy-five law ', and it is considered that he developed it.
Yukio Mishima and Only Consciousness [ edit ]
Yukio Mishima 's last work, the " Sea of Fertility " tetralogy, incorporates sensibility as one of its motifs. On the day of the final draft of Part 4, " Tennin Goshui ", Mishima committed suicide by committing suicide ( Mishima Incident ) at the Ground Self-Defense Force Ichigaya Garrison .
Tatsuhiko Shibusawa touched on Mishima's enthusiasm for philosophical theory in "Fragments about Yukio Mishima", and when Mishima asked him what philosophical theory was, Shuntaro Matsuyama, a religious scholar, said, ``That must be a madness . There is no way that a sane person would understand. The only good thing about the theory is that there is a staircase going down into the water, and before you know it, the water will reach your feet, and before you know it, you will be drowning. It is the logical structure of a large philosophy, it is what we call thought.” When Takeshi Umehara heard this, he said, “I admire Mishima, too, but I think I have come up with such an absurd theory . There are no Buddhist scholars who have disclosed it as such," he said. Also, when Mishima visited Shibusawa's house, he placed one plate horizontally and another plate vertically on top of it and said, ``In short, the aya-sense is that the time axis and the space axis are distorted like this. I think it's the origin that crosses the other," so I introduced a story that I teased, "Mr. Mishima, it's not Arayashiki, but Sarayashiki . "
