Epistles from Quaker groups from around the world – Friends World Committee for Consultation
Epistles from Quaker groups from around the world – Friends World Committee for Consultation
Epistles from Quaker groups from around the world
FWCC is pleased to post Epistles we receive.
An Epistle articulates a collective sense of experience and how God has moved among Friends during a gathering, be it a yearly meeting session or an FWCC Section meeting, or a Young Friends gathering. It is approved by that group during a meeting for business. It is typically shared with yearly meetings so that they might read some of them out in meeting or publish some for people to read. It was historically, and continues to be, an important way for Friends and others to learn about each other in that which is eternal. They help us appreciate that we are part of a world family of Friends.
Epistles have potential to facilitate understanding among Friends, and in this light, we ask that you read Epistles with an open mind and heart.
Please note that each meeting writes its own Epistle, and we do not alter or edit them; Friends with concerns are encouraged to address those directly to the sending meeting.
Here you will find the most recent epistles FWCC has received from each gathering. To read previous epistles, please check the archive.
If your Epistle doesn’t appear here, please send it to FWCC by email.

Kerry O’Regan has worked for many years helping people write - university students struggling with the mysteries of academic writing and people in palliative care wanting to write their stories as they approach their death. She has also engaged in her own personal writing from the heart and knows only too well how that process can be joyful, painful, confronting, liberating, and, ultimately, healing.

Marie Jamieson is an experienced facilitator whose current focus is the urgent transition necessary to address climate emergency & to reclaim harmony with nature. She draws on trainings with Joanna Macy & others around deep ecology, inner/outer transformation & extending human capacity. This builds on her background in working with loss & grief, & traumatic stress. Marie lives amongst spotted gums on the NSW south coast & directly experienced the horrors of the 2019/20 bushfires.
Christine Larkin has been a committed Quaker for nearly 30 years & has a passion for working on ways to sustain the integrity of the Earth & its magnificent array of creatures and plants. She has served on important Quaker bodies such as the Australian Quaker Earthcare Committee & the SWQC Elders committee. She is a committed activist & social change agent, & values what she has learnt from the experience & wisdom of Aboriginal people.
Chris and Marie are former work colleagues, having met when both were social workers with ACT Community Health.
The facilitators welcome queries from anyone wanting further information or to explore if this course is for them.

We draw on experiential processes from Joanna Macy’s the ‘Work That Recon-nects’ to enable expression & transformation of our deepest feelings of grief & despair. The arc of the week will enable personal renewal, renewed visions for healing the outer world & clarity about a way forward that is right for each of us.

What is the FWCC World Plenary Meeting 2023 (IRM)? – Friends World Committee for Consultation
What is the FWCC World Plenary Meeting (IRM)? – Friends World Committee for Consultation
What is the FWCC World Plenary Meeting (IRM)?
The FWCC World Plenary Meeting (the International Representatives Meeting of FWCC, formerly called the FWCC Triennial when it was held every three years), is a meeting for representatives from all four FWCC Sections to tend to FWCC business, and is surrounded by worship and fellowship with Friends from around the world. All Yearly Meetings and other bodies that are affiliated with FWCC are invited to send representatives.
In business session, the international representatives and all who are present consider decisions made on FWCC’s behalf by the Central Executive Committee (CEC) since the last International Representatives Meeting. The last World Plenary Meeting, in January 2016 in Pisac, Peru, included consultations on issues affecting Friends in the next 20 years, leading up to FWCC’s 100th anniversary in 2037. With a primary focus on youth, Friends considered: developing leadership and a living ministry to strengthen the Religious Society of Friends; encouraging membership and religious formation to strengthen our worshipping communities; addressing governance and meeting requirements for FWCC; and furthering the Kabarak Call for Peace and Eco-Justice and considering how we contribute to a peaceful and sustainable life on Earth.
Watch the video Epistle from the 2016 World Plenary Meeting, Peru
While the business is essential, it is not the main focus of a Plenary Meeting. The wide range of Friends attending, both geographically and theologically, ensures that the world family of Friends is well-represented. This gives those attending the opportunity for dialogue with Friends from other traditions, and a chance to form connections and partnerships. In home groups and workshops, in conversations over meals and in corridors, and through other encounters, Friends have the opportunity to get to know one another in the things that are eternal.
Time is also set aside for the four FWCC Sections to meet.
The next World Plenary Meeting is planned for 2023.
